St Kents visit

Every Wednesday St Kents students visit us and we have fun playing new games with them.  Thanks for coming to our school St Kents!

Making Hot Air Balloons

Making Hot Air Balloons
We made hot air balloons after reading Ben Gran and the whole wide wonderful world last week.  In the story, Ben's Gran wanted to visit him so she travelled all the way around the world.  \

It was fun making the balloons but it was really tricky as well.

We worked together when we were having difficulties and persevered until everyone had finished.  Frank really enjoyed helping others and thought it would be great to give his lego figures a ride when he got home, ka pai Frank what great thinking!

Wouldn't it be fun to go for a ride in a real hot air balloon. Here is a song you can learn at home.

Inquiry term 2

Look at this cool song we have been learning as part of our inquiry this term.  We can move around using many different methods.

Scooter Obstacle Course

PhotoPhoto

As part of our inquiry we have been thinking about how children move around.

On Thursday afternoon, we set up a safe obstacle course to scooter around, in our room. We thought about possible obstacles we could use. We used cones, skipping ropes, hula hoops and a table.

We talked about safety and thought we need to go slow and look where we are going. We thought the cones were like people and when somebody hit a cone we likened it to bumping into people. The ropes were like the footpath, we were careful we didn't go off the footpath onto the road.

Netball

We are learning to play netball in the beautiful winter sun. We have been practicing skills today.

First we warmed up our bodies with some fun games. Next we learned a chest pass and then a bounce pass.   We had a race with our partners to do 20 passes as fast as we could.

Our warm down at the end was an obstacle course carrying a ball and cone icecream!

How do people move from place to place?

Our inquiry this term has been 'How do people and goods move from place to place?'

Mary-Jane is scootering.
Madisyn is skateboarding.
Arihia is rollerskating.

This week we have been answering one of our questions - 'How can children move from place to place?'
We have thought about many different ways to move.  Today Mrs Calvert brought along three methods of transport for us to try.  Look at us having fun and learning at the same time!

Buddy Reading With Room 10

In the afternoons, Room 10 have been coming to do buddy reading with us.  We read to them from our book boxes and they read to us from our library. It is great to practice reading aloud with Room 10.

Thanks Mrs Buchanan and Room 10!

Creating With Jovi Clay

We have been learning to create 3D art with jovi modelling clay.  First we learned how to create shapes and textures with the clay.  We then made
a model of a vehicle that could be used to transport people which links to our inquiry topic this term How people and goods move from place to place.

Limiteti has made a rocket and Frank has made a helicopter.

Others made planes, boats, trucks, cars even a waka.  We all enjoyed using the clay.

Constable Taina Visits Room 5

We have been learning how to cross the road safely with Constable Taina. We learned to stand back from the curb, look right and left, then right and left again.  Next we walked quickly to the other side, checking right and left as we crossed.

We have to practice with our parents until we are 8 years old when we can cross the road by ourselves.

Look at Frank and Adalene and Rita and Jairus crossing the road  carefully.
